In a large bowl, add the milk, butter, sugar, salt, egg and the yeast mixture.Pandesal5

On a floured surface, knead the dough. Flour a little if necessary.Pandesal12Pandesal13

Once the dough is smooth, form into a ball and transfer to a lightly oiled bowl.Pandesal14

Cover in plastic wrap and place in a warm area for 1 hour and 30 minutes or until it has doubled in size.Pandesal15

Transfer the dough on a floured surface and divide into 16 pieces.Pandesal16

Form each piece into small ball.Pandesal17

Roll each piece into breadcrumbs.Pandesal18

Arrange them on a baking sheet. Cover with kitchen towel and place again in warm area for 2 hours or until it has doubled in size.Pandesal19Pandesal20

Ingredients
Yeast Mixture:
  • 30 ml warm water (100-110F)
  • 1⅛ tsp active dry yeast
  • ½ tsp sugar
Remaining Ingredients:
  • ½ cup lukewarm milk
  • 2 tbsp butter, room temperature
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 cup flour (additional ¼ cup for kneading)
  • ⅓ cup fine breadcrumbs
Instructions
  1. In a small bowl, add the warm water. Stir in the yeast and sugar. Let it sit for 10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Pour the yeast mixture into a large bowl and add milk, sugar, salt, beaten egg and butter. Whisk until combined.
  3. Add 1 cup of flour and whisk until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the remaining flour and mix using rubber spatula.
  5. Transfer dough to a floured surface and knead until smooth. Flour a little if necessary.
  6. Once the dough is smooth, form into a ball and transfer to a large bowl lightly greased with olive oil.
  7. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and place in a warm area for 1 hour and 30 minutes or until it has doubled in size.
  8. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and divide into 16 pieces. Form each piece into a small ball and roll on breadcrumbs.
  9. Transfer and arrange the balls into a baking sheet and cover with kitchen towel. Place in a warm area for 2 hours or until it has doubled in size.
  10. Once each piece has risen, bake in preheated oven (350F) for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
  11. Serve immediately while hot.
